FIAT-NSU is a mark of Automobile S marketed by the company NSU starting from 1922, then by the company FIAT starting from 1929 following the Faillite of company NSU.

History

Very early German manufacturer NSU, based in Neckarsulm, maintained the special relationships with Italy and FIAT in particular.

Since 1922, NSU signs an agreement with FIAT to build, under license, of the models of the Italian manufacturer what will make it possible to the Italian giant to become in very little time the second foreign mark in Germany. Of the same NSU manufactured under license the famous scooters and motor bikes Lambretta.

To face the increasing demand of cars FIAT-NSU, it is then undertaken the construction of a new factory with Heilbronn, at the edge of the Neckar river. The factory opens its doors in 1926 and employs 4000 worker.

In 1929, following serious financial problems, NSU is found in bankruptcy and constrained to sell its industrial site of Heilbronn with FIAT for the sum of 2 million marks. NSU gives up the manufacture of the cars and is devoted exclusively to construction under license of Lambretta motor cycles.

FIAT then takes again immediately construction with its own licenses FIAT 521 which will be car FIAT the most produced apart from Italy, and will continue with the FIAT 500 Topolino, which will be manufactured until 1955, and FIAT 508 Balilla. It marketed them under name FIAT-NSU.

These cars were also manufactured in France by Simca - FIAT. FIAT-NSU also manufactured the models FIAT 1100 - FIAT 1500 and FIAT 2800 prewar.

Manufacture stopped during the second world war and taken again only in 1952 after a long rebuilding of the sites destroyed by the bombardments.

In 1957, NSU decided to try to start again the manufacture of cars and negotiated with FIAT the repurchase of mark NSU. FIAT-NSU was transformed into FIAT Neckar. NSU did not make better fortune and was found quickly repurchased by the group Volkswagen.
