FIAP

the FIAP (International federation of Photographic art) gathers the photographic federations of the various constitutive countries without distinctions.

The FIAP counts more than 85 national associations in the five continents and represents the interests of almost a million individual photographers. Since September 2004, the clubs and regional groups of clubs can join the FIAP under certain conditions.

History

It is into 1946 that Dr. Van de Wijer takes the initiative to found, in the interest of photography, an worldwide organization designed on modern bases of gathering of the people. He contacts Ernest Boesiger (Swiss), presents his idea to him and proposes the secretariat of the FIAP named to him initially International union of the Photographic Companies , then International counsel of the Photographic art and finally International federation of the Photographic art . One can say that the FIAP exists truly since beginning 1947, with Maurice Van de Wijer like president-founder and Ernest Boesiger as secretary.

The first countries to be adhered to it are the Belgium, the Netherlands, the Italy, the Portugal and the Suisse; in September 1947, the Denmark, the Finland and the Hungary change the number of members to eight.

The first congress constitutive of the FIAP took place with Bern in 1950.

Its goal is the promotion of the photographic art under all the aspects and by photographic demonstrations of all kinds.
