In telecommunications, FEC (for F orward E rror C orrection) is a protective system against the errors used during the data transmission. The transmitter adds redundancy in order to make it possible to the recipient to detect and correct part of the errors. That makes it possible to avoid the retransmission, and thus to make savings in band, to even ensure the transmission in certain situations where there is no backward channel.
