History
First steps of the FC Seville (1890-1905)
Although the FC Seville is born officially only in 1905, the origins of the club goes back to 1890.At that time, a group of young people sévillans, wire of former English immigrants, formed a company in order to practice football. These precursors of the FC Seville were the brothers Welton, Carlos and Enrique. They had been born with Seville and resided at Triana, where their father Jorge William Welton had assembled a small business in the street San Jacinto.
With them was Isaiàs White, another sévillan wire of an industrialist of English origin. Merry is linked then with them, born him also with Seville although Irish parents, as well as Doctor Landong. Very quickly of autes young people of English origin mainly linked themselves with them.
They fixed the office of the Sevilla Foot-ball Club in the street Bailén 41, where the secretary of the new club resided, Isaiàs White.
They had thus creates the first company specifically dedicated to football in Spain.
Thanks to a knowledge of the White young person, certain Henderson, the secretary sévilla taken knowledge of the existence of a " company of agrément" who had been founded with Huelva one year before and who was dedicated to the practice of various sports in the close city. He put himself immediately in liaison with this company and sent a letter to them inviting them to play a football game in the town of Seville.
Mr.Palin, secretary of the " Huelva Club" Re-creation; , agreed the proposal of the FC Seville to play this match. Isaiàs White envioya a note of press to the newspapers sévillans which was published the March 7th in the " Porvenir" and the 8 in the " Baluarte".
And indeed, the match proceeded beside the hippodrome of Tablada. The FC Seville gained two goals with one. The composition of the teams of the match which is regarded by the Fédération of Spain of football as the first match played on the Spanish ground was the following one: Maccoll, Logan, Stroulger, Rickson, Annodall, Mandy, White, Enrique Welton, Greig, Sturgart and Nicholson made carried the colors of the FC Seville while Alcock, Yates, Wakelin, Duclos, Coto, Kirk, Daniel, Curtis, Gibbson, Badly and Smith represented Huelvo Recreation Club.
After the match, the FC Seville invited the opposing team with a banquet with the coffee Suizo, one of most elegant of the city. Taken care lasted until late in the night.
Huelva Recreation Club turned over the invitation to the FC Seville and he was played another match with Huelva, the March 29th with 16:30. This match was gained by the host team. A banquet was celebrated with the Hotel Colonist in the honor of the sévillane team.
Another match was organized in 1891, still with Seville, the hippodrome of Tablada. It was a 1 {{er}} January with an aim of celebrating the festivals of Christmas. Maccol (captain), Plews, Charlesworth, Thomson, Logan, Stroneger, Poppy, Welton, White, Geddes and Merry represented the FC Seville.
The article which the press made on this match strongly insisted on excessive dimensions of the playing field, which 120 meters length were for 55 broad. Another match was played and gained by Huelva Recreation Club the February 14th of the same year. In 1892, these two clubs played again within the framework of the quadricentennial of discovered America; this match gained by Huelva Re-creation named the " Copa of Raza".
With the beginning of the year 1900, originating in Sherry of Frontera, contacts the pioneers of the club who were White, Welton, Merry or Langdong… and it gave following the sévillane team. So the son of Doctor Langdong, Charles Langdong, belonged to the first directing assembly which was made up the October 14th 1905.
First years and gilded time (1905-1962)
FC Seville was founded the October 14th 1905; the governor of Seville, Jose Will counter Carmona, approves the statutes, validates the legality of the club sévillan and announces its creation. In these first statutes one found:- Jose Shine Gallegos as president.
- Manual Jiménez de León as secretary and treasurer.
- Juan Mejías, Samuel Harmech, Manual Zapata Castañeda and Charles Landong (wire of Doctor Langdong)
" All the men of any social status, religious ideas or policies will be able to come ici" , Jose Shine Gallegos, Discours after the foundation of the club, 1905.
The first matches disputed in the stage of the " Prado de San Sebastian" , placed beside the Park of Maria Luisa, opposite the District of the Engineers.
The January 30th 1909 the FC Seville disputes its first official match against the Recreativo Huelva. The 1 {{er}} January 1913 is inaugurated Campo del Mercantil, the new stage, thanks to the fact that the president of the club, Jose Maria Miro, obtains the transfer of some grounds located in Prado de San Sebastian, for part of Circulo Mercantil. In 1914, it gains its first Cut of Seville. Since the creation of the Cut of Andalusia, in 1916, with its disappearance 17 years later, the club collected not less than 14 championships and 3 of vice-champion. The October 21st 1918 it changes stage again, passing to that called Reina Victoria, in current Avenue of Palmera; in this stage the first match played by the Spanish selection disputed in Andalusia, in 1923. In the Copa del Rey (single national competition of the time) the team, however, could reach only the semi-finals in 1921. At that time the famous attack called " consolidated; the line of the peur" , and a style of play called " the school sévillane" , which surprised the teams of the time. The October 7th 1928 the club changes stage for the penultimate time, coming to play in the Stage of Nervion, which if it were still upright would be adjacent at the current stage inaugurated in 1958. In this stage the FC Seville carried out these best performances: three Cuts of Spain (a Trophy President of the Republic, a Trophy of Géneralissime and a Cut of Géneralissime) and Liga.
At the time of the creation of the Championship of Spain of football in 1929, the FC Seville had disputed a match return ticket against the Racing Santander to define which would be it tenth team which would supplement the Primera Division. Seville could not leave victorious, and although this year the club gained the Segunda Division, it lost promotion against the same team. After several years of poor results, the FC Seville begins in Primera Division during season 34/35. In 1935 it gains its first Cut of Spain, after having diverted Sabadell by 3-0. After the War of Spain, Seville gains the Trophy of Géneralissime ( Trofeo del Generalisimo ) after having beaten the Racing de Ferrol 6-2, which is the second best score in the history of the finales of Coupe of Spain.
After the shock caused by the civil war, the Liga starts again with season 39/40 and the FC Seville plays some matches incredible, gaining 11-1 with Barcelona, 10-3 with Valence and 8-3 in Hercules CF, but at the time of the last match of the season a defeat against Hercules CF makes it lose the championship. Its astonishing attack was called " stukas" , like the devastators German planes. After several years in the highest places, coming very close to victory in championship several times, Seville gains its first and single Liga at the time of season 45/46 with Ramon Encinas as trainer, at the time of the last day, in the stage of " Corts" , vis-a-vis a team of the FC Barcelona which also played for the victory in championship. The goal of Ajauro gave the title to the sévillans. Moreover, the FC Seville was vice-champion at the time of seasons 39/40, 42/43, 50/51 (with a great polemic on the arbitration) and 56/57.
Three years later, in 1948 Seville will gain its third and penultimate Coupe of Spain by overcoming the Celta Vigo 4-1.
The FC Seville inaugurated its new stage in 1958, little time after its promoter dies, the president emblématique of the club, Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, which gave its name at the stage.
Second half of the XXe century
After having been vice-champion of the Copa of 1962, the FC Seville will have to wait 44 years before being able to again dispute the final of a tournament at the national or international level. During these long years, the club lived a few good moments, but especially very bad moments. In the the Sixties, the club stagnates in medium of classification, although it is qualified for the Cut of Europe of the towns of fair (precursor of the Cut of the UEFA) at the time of season 65/66; the following year Seville escapes from accuracy from relegation, and two years later (67/68) is relegated in Segunda Division after 33 seasons spent in Primera Division.
The club reappears 3 years later, by obtaining the 3rd place of the championship which enables him to dispute the Cut of Europe of the towns of fair; what did not prevent that the team turns over in Segunda Division in 71/72, and there remains 3 years.
During the first of these three seasons, before center Pedro Berruezo found death in the Pasaron stage, with Pontevedra.
But the team (which counted in her rows very good Biri-Biri) succeeds in going up in Primera Division, not to go down again from there during 21 years.
In the Years 1980, the team, made up players like Francisco Lopez Alfaro and Pintinho and directed by Miguel Muñoz firstly then by Manolo Cardo, developed a football which filled with wonder Spanish like the foreigners and who allowed the team to twice take part consecutive in the Coupe of the UEFA at the time of seasons 81/82 and 82/83.
At the time of the first of these two participations, in the eighth of finale of the Cut of the UEFA 1982/83, Seville, after having lost 2-0 against PAOK Salonique in Greece, succeeds in obtaining the qualification in residence thanks to a score of 4-0. In quarterfinals the team was eliminated by the 1.FC German Kaiserslautern.
Several years later, with Vicente Cantatore on the bench of trainer, the club obtains a new participation (89/90). This year, the Austrian attacker Anton Polster succeeds in marking 33 goals, but it did not have the title of " pichichi" (better striker), which was decreed with Hugo Sánchez which had marked 38 goals. At the time of season 92/93, the star of football Diego Maradona arrives at the club thanks to the new trainer Carlos Bilardo, who in spite of that left by the door behind at the end of the season. With Shine Aragonés, the club carried out two good seasons, and was qualified even for the Coupe of the UEFA at the time of the second (94/95); nobody could have envisaged what was going to occur the following year.
The summer 1995 and following years
The Law of the Sport obliged the teams, which converted themselves gradually into Sporting Public limit companies, has to present financial advances in preparation for debts before the 1 {{er}} August 1995. For various reasons, the FC Seville and the Celta Vigo could not respect the deadlines, and were " administrativement" retrogressed in Segunda Division B.Obviously, the scandal was enormous. Tens of thousands of supporters of the two clubs left in the street several times to defend the intêrets of their team. The direction of Seville affirmed that the financial advance had been paid in time, but that the observation of this fact had to take delay. Instead of that, the Federation with given their places in Will precede Division with Valladolid and Albacete, which was to be relegated in Segunda Division.
With final, the pressure carried out by the supporters made reconsider its decision the Federation, and the latter did not have of another choice to accept the 4 clubs in Primera Division, forming a championship of 22 teams which lasted 2 years. After all this polemic, most remarkable this year was the good activity of the team in Coupe of the UEFA, which was eliminated by FC Barcelona. But the following year was also going to hold its batch of surprises.
The principal shareholder of the club, González de Caldas, and its trainer, Jose Antonio Camacho, has amino the club with the economic and sporting ruin. So much so that one wanted to sell the stage. None the trainers succeeding to him could rectify the bar, and the FC Seville went down irremediably in Segunda Division.
After two last years in this championship and to have overcome Villarreal in a match for promotion, the club faces a springtide (99/00) in Primera Division, which is very bad and will not remain not registered in annals of the club.
Ressurgissement
After several years of enormous economic failures, sporting and social, Roberto Alés takes the direction of the club. Under its mandate, austerity, " saving in guerre" and the " method allemande" are imposed, in opposition to several years of " wasting économique" , bad management and bad purchases of players, that most of the time the direction did not know safe by intermediaries. The FC Seville, heavily in debt and almost without money (it is told that one day Roberto Alés from paying its pocket the purchase of new balloons for the club, because, incredible but true, the club did not have any to be involved even more) was seen obliged to sell some of its stars (Vasilis Tsartas, Juan Carlos, Marchena and Jesuli), some of the authentic pearls of the club, and to cut off themselves in an economic management from absolute austerity. Sportivement, Seville names the ex-guard and deputy of the " team; Monchi" as sport director, whereas Joaquin Caparros is selected at the post of trainer. With the policy of " men, not of the noms" Monchi succeeds in making a team without stars, recruiting players of step or little reputation, the major part obtained free, isolated players of other clubs or unknown joeurs, imposing a policy of management based on the reports/ratios, the follow-up of the players, the absolute knowledge of the market of the transfers and the needs for the team, and deploying an enormous network of observers in the whole world, more particularly in South America.
Thus, with the know-how of the trainer and an unknown social peace previous years, the team with succeeded in carrying out one brilliant season, playing a combative football, of luxury, ordered, without excess, but enormously effective, by proclaiming champion of Segunda Division and by obtaining 23 victories (historical records of the club in one season) and 66 goals for.
Now that it is in Primera Division, the club settles among large the years after years. With few resources, one has succeeds in building a structured team, which obtains good performances and which competes with largest in Primera Division. After two last years to leave the club the economic problems, Roberto Alés gives the presidency to ex-vice-president Del Nido, known for its excellent management during fateful relegation in Segunda B.
This one, with a presidential style much expensif, but égualement with the feet on the ground at the economic and sporting level, manages little by little to recruit players of a certain quality, and déploit an aggressive policy of marketing which starts again the image of the club and, thanks to the sporting good performances of the club, manages to fill with wonder the supporters at a way that made a long time that one had not seen. Players like the Uruguyan Darío Silva, of the young people " perles" asset at low prices like Brazilian the Julio Baptista or Daniel Alves, and of the players having made a brilliant career one makes this period the beginning of European rise of the team, which succeeds in reaching the Coupe of the UEFA.
The season preceding the centenary (04/05), the FC Seville occupied almost all the year the station which gave access the Ligue Champions, but some defeats at the end of the season moved away it from this competition.
With Juande Ramos, the following year (the year of the Centenary of the club), the club does not reach either the Ligue of the Champions after an incredible rise with the classification where it avit beaten the Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. But the great moment of the club at the time of these 100 years was not in Spain: it was in Europe.
Season 2005/06, Cut of the UEFA
Having finished 6th at the time of season 2004/05 of the Will precede Division, the FC Seville with obtained the access to the first tower of the Coupe of the UEFA. After having passed successfully this first turn as well as the phase of groups, the club beaten the Lokomotiv Moscow and reached the eighth of finale thus. The March 9th, Seville loses 1-0 against Lille OSC for the match outward journey, but the March 16th, at the time of the match which is its ciquantième at the European level, the club gains 2-0 and is qualified for the quarterfinals.
After that, the FC Seville beats the Zenith Saint-Pétersbourg the March 30th and the April 6th, for a score total of 5-2, and thus reached the semi-finals.
It is at the time of the semi-finals that the largest challenge arised: in what much called the anticipated final, Seville was confronted with powerful the Schalke 04. After a match outward journey of a low intensity which finished on the score of 0-0, Seville played the return match to residence. But, as all what occurs in this city, a happiness never comes only. The match disputed in full litigation with Antena 3, the television which had the rights of diffusion of the competition. After several days of negotiations, the match of Seville will not be finally diffused in Spain, and only a German chain, coded and visible only on the satellite, will retransmettra the match. Moreover, as if it were not sufficient, the match took place into full ( Foire of April). The atmosphere which reigned in the streets of the city was not very serene, between the tension of the supporters which did not know if it could on television see the match of their club fetish and the enormous joy of those which had a ticket to see the match in the stage. The disappointed match not and was very disputed. At the end of the prescribed time the two teams were always with equality, the goal of the victory coming from tried out Puerta in the prolongations. One historic moment thus, the first European final of the club, that everyone with fété at the time of the " Feria".
The May 10th, in the Dutch city of Eindhoven, the FC Seville played what will remain can be like the most beautiful match that he ever played. A displacement in mass of the Spanish supporters and a large support of Spanish television marked this meeting.
Seville played its first final less by overcoming Middlesbrough by step than 4-0, which is the best score finally of the Coupe of the UEFA since it is held in single match. The goals were distributed as follows: one of Shine Fabiano, two of Enzo Maresca and another of Frederic Kanouté.
2006: Supercoupe d' Europe

The first goal of Renato and that at the end of the first half of Frederic Kanouté promised victory with the team, which was completely acquired with the penalty converts by Maresca in the stops of play. It is also the greatest number of goals marked in the history of the Supercoupe of the UEFA since it disputes on only one match. The FC Seville thus gained its second European title in three months.
