FAO Schwarz

The county of Jaffa is a stronghold on the littoral of the Royaume of Jerusalem, which is also a walk vis-a-vis the Egypt Fatimide.

History

The town of Jaffa was taken as of 1099, and Baudoin I {{er}} made of it a county which he entrusted to Hugues of Puiset. In 1135 the count Hugues II was shown of adultery with the queen Mélisende of Jerusalem, and its county was confiscated, to be given in Apanage to family members royal. In 1153, the town of Ascalon is taken, and the county becomes county of Jaffa and Ascalon . Jaffa was taken by Saladin after the Bataille of Hattin in 1187, and was reconquered in 1191 by Richard Lion-hearted. It was definitively taken by the Moslems in 1268.
