FACE
FACE (in French, Artistic Formation in the middle of Education and in English, Fine Arts Core Education ) is a Québécois school public with vocation offering of the courses starting from the primary education (prématernelle) to the 5th secondary. FACE is a school of art i.e. of visual art, theater, vocal and instrumental music.
This school is located in full heart of the center town of Montreal. Built in 1914, the school bore at the beginning the name of " Montreal High School". The architects originators are the brothers Maxwell.
It is one of the rare schools not to be a school of district. Other made rare, it forms at the same time part of the School commission of Montreal (CSDM) and the English-Montreal School commission (CSEM), therefore it has two shutters: a French-speaking and an Anglophone . That raised of a special agreement with the provincial government, because in theory, it is interdict to mix pupils of 2 various commissions school.
The school was well classified with the prize list of the secondary schools of the review the topicality , and is characterized by the absence from examination from loss or another selection criteria that the principle: “arrived first, been useful first”.
Program
As of the nursery school, the pupil integrates four periods of 45 minutes music each week; three will be devoted to the Orff instruments and the recorder, one with the choir singing. In fourth year, one proposes to the pupils to learn an instrument from orchestra: violin, flute, coppers, clarinet etc. At the end of L `year (fourth year) the professors decide which instrument at summer best played (by the pupil) and the child will play it. If the child already started the study of one instrument at the house, it will choose a second instrument, in order to widen its horizons. Each session, each of the 1300 pupils of the institution must take part in an instrumental concert (together of flutes, concert of orchestra, harmonizes, etc), a service choral society, a play (ten parts, including some musical comedies, are assembled each year) and a varnishing (sculpture, photography, painting, drawings, etc)At the beginning of secondary 4, the professors create two groups of orchestras, advanced and a beginner.
Out of secondary 5, the pupils have the choice of the courses with options.
