F2005 Ferrari
The Ferrari F2005 is the single-seater of the Scuderia Ferrari of Formule 1 of the Championnat of the world of Formula 1 2005, with at its wheel Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. It was presented to Maranello the February 25th 2005.
History
The new regulation aerodynamics 2005 has constrained the stable with an considerable increase of the weight and a new design in comparison with the Ferrari F2004. Moreover, the change of regulation tires (only one set of tires for a race) weakens the exclusive partnership Bridgestone - Ferrari vis-a-vis Michelin. Faithful to the victorious strategy in 2002 and 2003, it is a car already one year old - modified and adapted to the payment in strength which is committed at the time of the first tests of the season, time to make reliable the new single-seater.
It is thus at the wheel of the Ferrari F2004M, derived from the Ferrari F2004 that Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello begins the season 2005, the entry of F2005 being planned for the Grand Prix of Spain, fifth sleeve of the season. However the insufficient performances of the F2004M, sinning where its elder dominated were going to force the decision makers of Scuderia to hasten the engagement of the new single-seater, more especially as another team dominates this beginning of the season: Renault.
The track entry of F2005 will thus take place at the time of the Grand Prix of Bahrain, third test of the season. Schumacher signs a splendid performance in qualification, being classified second behind Fernando Alonso. The beginning of race seems to mark the return of Ferrari to the foreground, before the abandonment of Michael Schumacher, when Rubens Barrichello rejoins the arrival with great evil, with tires used to the cord.
With Imola, one attends without the knowledge the apogee of the season 2005 of Scuderia. Qualified in the medium of the table after an error, Schumacher at the time of the race will start a diabolic increase, turning often more than two seconds more quickly to the turn than its adversaries! It makes the junction with the leader Fernando Alonso with ten turns of the arrival and applies to him a pressure of all the devils, in vain, the " Baron Rouge" finish second of a Grand Prix which, since 2000 had escaped him only once, in 2001, with the profit of his/her brother. The remainder of the season will see the Reds struggling with problems of coherence tires/frame and undergoing the domination of McLaren and Renault, as well as the threat of Toyota.
It is however because the pilots of Scuderia are fitted tires Bridgestone lower than their French rivals of Michelin than this season was not virgin of victory for the Reds. Indeed, at the time of an atypical Grand Prix of the the United States, all the pilots Michelin (McLaren, Renault, BAR Honda, Toyota, Williams, Red Bull Racing, Sauber) is 70% of the grid, return to the stands at the conclusion of the turn of heating! Confronted with problems of brittleness of the French envelopes, the TEAM-managers chose not to take the risk to take part in the race. These are thus six cars which take the departure of this Grand Prix: Ferrari, Jordan and Minardi. It is thus about a perfect holdup for these six pilots, who finish with positions that they would never have reached under normal conditions. Michael Schumacher carries it in front of her fellow-member and Tiago Monteiro, on Jordan. It will be the only break of this first part of season, so much the level of the package Ferrari-Bridgestone seems far from the account.
The last positive point was the pole position of Schumacher in Hungary, and its second final place. Year 2005 is completed on the sacrings of Fernando Alonso and Renault, putting fine at the Ferrari era. Rubens Barrichello leaves to BAR Honda, and it is Felipe Massa which will replace it in 2006, at the wheel of the Ferrari 248 F1.
