Jean Marot , (1619 - 1679), French architect, father of Daniel Marot (1663 - 1752). He writes important works for knowledge of the Arts, the Construction under the Régence and at the beginning of the reign of Louis XV.

Biography

He applied less to the practice than with the theory of his art; he was however in charge of the construction of various remarkable buildings: it is on its drawings that were high the Hôtel of Mortemart and the frontage of the church of Feuillantines of the Faubourg Saint-Jacob, whose Blondel collected the plans in its French Architecture . One still quotes among the principal works of Marot the frontage of the Hôtel of Pussort and the Château of Lavardin in the Maine. It was named architect of the king, and presented a project for the principal frontage of the Louvre (see: Perrault). This artist published with his son the plans of the principal old and modern buildings. One is unaware of the time of his death; but it is well certainly former to the year 1697.

Flor. the Count published the Catalog of the work of Marot father and wire in the Cabinet of architecture , etc 1st part, p. 29 and suiv. the Collection of their plans had appeared as of 1691; Mariette, become owner of coppers, published of it a new pulling under this title: French Architecture, or Collection of the plans, rises, cuts and profiles of the churches, palate, hotels and particular houses of Paris, etc , 1727, in-fol. ; specimens of this collection carry the date of 1751; and there is the different one with the first date, under the name of Marot, which is found admittedly with the bottom of each board.

J. Marot A. drawn and engraved the boards of a great number of works of architecture, inter alia, of Manner of building well, by Lemuet; French Translations of Flat-bottom, Palladio, Scamozzi; and it published with his son of the Livres of ornaments, interior decorations, joinery, iron work, etc ; finally it carried out a great number of the boards of the large cabinet of the king.
