Eysturoy is connected to the island of Streymoy by a road bridge. The islanders describe it (by joke) as being the only road bridge above the Atlantique (people originating in the Scottish island of Seil also assert this fact). There is also the port of Leirvík on the east coast, of which share an underwater tunnel, inaugurated at the end of April 2006, which gives access the town of Klaksvík on the island of Borðoy.
The villages piittoresques of the island are Eiði and Gjógv, which is very appreciated photographers - amateurs or not - of share their situation in a splendid nature; let us not forget Gøta with the Museum Blásastova and the thermal springs of Fuglafjørður ( varmakelda ), witnesses of the volcanic origin of the archipelago.
All in the north of Eysturoy, with some encablures of the coast, are profiled the mythical basalt rocks which are Risin and Kellingin.
