Eyre Coote

Eyre Coote , born in 1726 close to Limerick, in Ireland, and dead on April 28th, 1783 with Madras, today Chennai, was a British general.

He takes share with the engagements opposing France and England in India, playing a big role in the catch of Calcutta, of which he becomes governor. He also takes Houghly and Chandernagor in 1757, then contributes to the Bataille of Plassey on June 23rd of this same year. In 1760, it beats Lally-Tollendal, before forcing it to capitulate in Pondichéry in 1762.

It gains several victories vis-a-vis Haidar Alî, with Oporto Novo (1781) and with Arni (1782). He dies the following year in Madras; a monument is set up in its honor in the Abbaye of Westminster.
