Extensometry
Introduction
The extensometry is the measurement of the Déformation S.
It is an essential component of the Science of the materials and in particular of the experimental part of the Mécanique of the continuous mediums. It is indeed by the measurement of the deformations and the forces that it is possible to calculate the Contrainte S. extensometry for example is used at the time of tensile tests.
Extensometry also is very much used for the active monitoring of works of art such as the bridges, the stoppings or the large buildings because it makes it possible to anticipate their ageing and thus to plan the maintenance actions essential to safety.
Techniques
Many techniques of extensometry are possible
Extensometry with contact
-
gauge S of microdistortions
- knives
- vibrating Cord
Extensometry without contact
-
measurement of grids
- measurement of points
- moire
- correlation of digital images
- laser interferometry
