Extension (software)
See also: Extension
In the environment Firefox and Mozilla, inter alia, a extension is a series of orders written and compressed in only one file: it is a kind of list of orders finding itself directly included with the program. This term (by error) is rather often confused with the Plugin which, indicates a Programme to him; one should not either confuse with the term “Extension of file name” indicating the format of a file.
The extensions for example are used by and for the engine Gecko.
The text of the extensions can vary from one software to another, with for example:
- the format XPI for the family Mozilla (the navigator S Firefox and SeaMonkey, the Courielleur Thunderbird, but also Nvu and Songbird)
- the format ZIP for the navigator Opera
- the format GRAVEL BANK for Java (part of the XPI include/understand files GRAVEL BANK)
