Expos of Montreal

The Expos of Montreal were a frankness from Baseball of the major Ligue of baseball (LMB) having for residence the town of Montreal, Quebec. Expos were the first frankness from baseball out of the the United States.

The frankness is moved with Washington DC in 2004 where it became the Nationals of Washington.

History

Franknesses the May 27th 1968, they owe their name with the World Fair of Montreal (Ground of the Men) which took place the previous year. Their colors are the Bleu, the Blanc and the Rouge, thus pointing out the French origin of the town of Montreal. They played their first match the April 8th 1969, against the Mets with the '' Shea Stadium '' with New York. The April 14th 1969, they play in residence for the first time at the Stade Jarry and gain the match against the Cardinals of St-Louis. After the Olympic Games of Montreal, Expos settle as of 1977 with the Olympic stadium. In 1979 Youppi! joint rows of Expos at the station of Mascot.

The September 29th 2004 the Major Ligue of Baseball announces officially the removal of the frankness from Expos with Washington DC for 2005. The same day, Expos played their last home match by losing 9-1 against the Marlins of Florida, in front: 31395 spectators with the Olympic stadium. The October 3rd 2004, Expos play the last match of their history to the Shea Stadium against the Mets of New York and lose 8-1.

Of 1969 with 2004 they disputed: 5698 matches and known: 2755 victories, but never gained the world championship. During this period, nearly 49 million spectators have assity to their home matches.

Facts

  • the April 14th 1969, Mack Jones striking a circuit of 3 points and triple of 2 points to allow Expos to gain their first match with the Park Jarry against the Cardinals of St-Louis. Jones thus struck the first circuit out of the the United States.

  • the August 12th 1994, Expos occupied the first rank of division is National league and had the best file of the major Baseball (74-40). The team directed at this time by Felipe Alou held an advance of six parts on the Braves of Atlanta. Unfortunately, a strike put an end to the hopes of Expos to reach the series for first once since 1981. The conflict cancelled the balance of the activities of major baseball until the April 26th 1995. For financial reasons, the team had to get rid of the high-speed motorboats Larry Walker, John Wetteland, Marquis Grissom and Ken Hill. This date is now recognized like that of died of Expos of Montreal, since Expos will be concerned this fall never again.
