Expo 67

The Expo 67 of Montreal was a World Fair (of A) category held in 1967 on the topic of Ground of the Men (English: Man and his World ). These great exposures are held since the middle of the 19th century and are used to emphasize the technological and industrial achievements of the countries hosts.

Detailed description

Coinciding with the hundredth birthday of the Canadian Confederation and the 325e birthday of the town of Montreal, Expo 67 was indisputably an big event of the history of the city. From one six months duration, the exposure accommodated nearly 50 million visitors. Nearly 90 houses of all kinds (governments, houses sets of themes, etc) were set up for the event. Major work had followed obtaining the exposure: the island Sainte-Hélène doubled surface following work of enlarging and a very new island, the island Notre-Dame, was set up close to the first.

There remains one of the three circuits of Monorail, that is to say that in the amusement park the Round. Still in service the old houses of Canada are (maintaining the office administrative of the Parc Jean-Flag), of Quebec, of the France (maintaining the Casino of Montreal), of Tunisia (maintaining a snack) Jamaica and the United States. National houses

the house of the Canadian National explores the topic of the movement and time. A film in 70mm on curved big screen, heading the Movement/Motion makes the eloquent demonstration of it.
the house the Canadian-Pacific Cominco projects a film on multiple screens: We Somme Young/We Are Young , a table of the vibrating youth of the years '60. The visitor is then invited to play interactivement with the five directions.
the house Polymer , as much by clever installations that by its daring architecture, returns account of progress in the world of the plastics and of composed of synthesis.
the house of the company Kodak dazzles the visitor by his advances in the field of photography. A spectacle of images projected on water jets finishes the visit.

Events

At the time of its visit in Montreal, the general Charles de Gaulle pronounces, Vive free Quebec . at the time of a speech which will remain engraved in the memories, of the words causing a political scandal. This last will finalize its speech by taking again the currency of the republic: Freedom Equality Fraternity. It will leave Canada without going to Ottawa, where the Parliament of Canada is.
