Exploration of Australia by Europeans

The exploration of Australia by Europeans was done gradually, in several waves of terrestrial and maritime forwardings. It is often believed that Australia was discovered by the lieutenant of the Royal Navy James Cook in 1770, but it is in fact only one explorer among much of others which had discovered the continent and had approached there quite front, and even 170 years before for the first of them. For as much, the exploration of Australia does not finish with James Cook: for the installation of the first colony, it will be necessary more than one century so that the whole of the continent is known Europeans.
