Experimental archeology
The experimental Archéologie seeks, starting from the vestiges of objects manufactured by the man, to reconstitute of it the use and the manufacturing process for that, one reconstitutes by the experiment of the technical objects and one compares them with the original objects. One can thus study of them at the same time the manufacturing methods (EP proceeded of size of a flint), the source of their components (EP area of origin of a metallurgical ore), and the uses (EP traces wear of an axe revealing the manner and wood on which it was used).
An application: starting from the scraps of Neolithic flint tools one wanted to determine their modes of production and the archeologists managed to reproduce the manufacture of double-side and heads of arrows. For that, it was simultaneously necessary to exploit the aspect of the finished tools, the small glares given up by the craftsman and to carry out tests of production (for example, to determine if a tool out of wooden were necessary, if a tool hones some more tender or harder were employed, etc).
Goals
The step can be a simple validation of assumption, or a research with the blind man.Means
It is possible to practice with a large budget (reconstitution of large work without crane), or with a weak budget (stone size).
