Executive council (Swiss)

The Executive council is the name given to the Gouvernement of the Canton of Bern (Suisse). In others French Swiss cantons , the government bears the name of Council of State .

The Executive council is composed of 7 members since 1990 (9 before) and is elected every 4 years at the same time as the Grand the Council. The Canton of bilingual, French and German Bern being, the Bernese cantonal constitution guarantees a seat with a French-speaking person at the Executive council. Its last election takes place the April 9th 2006.

  • Werner Luginbühl, Director of justice, the communal businesses and the ecclesiastical businesses (UDC)
  • Hans-Jürg Käser, Director of the police force and the military businesses (PRD)
  • Philippe Perrenoud, Director of the public health and the social welfare (PS)
  • Bernhard Pulver, Director of the state education (the Greens)
  • Andreas Rickenbacher, Director of the public economy (PS)
