Excel Saga

Excel Saga ( エクセル・サーガ , ekuseru sāga ) is a Anime humorous and parodic of 26 episodes realized in 1999 by Shinichi Watanabe, drawn from a manga éponyme of Koshi Rikdo, author rather prolific of the medium of the Dōjinshi, inter alia recognized for the erotic parodies of its own series.

Short summary of " the histoire"

Excel Saga puts in scene several parallel stories having many complex interactions between them: this article thus has by no means claim with exhaustiveness.

Hanako Dosukoi, more known under the name of Excel is an young girl exuberant and full with energy. It has just obtained its university degree. It then finds work near a secret organization, Across, of which the goal of the single member (It Palazzo, a parody of Dictateur) is to control the world. Excel, insane in love with its Master works in a keen but ineffective way to help it to conquer the world (while starting with F City, whose sewer S shelter the base of Across). It causes in the passing the accidental death of a worker come from the Brésil, Pedro, whose misfortunes will be told to us with the wire of the episodes. Excel is joined soon in its mission by Hyatt, a Princesse reached Anémie come from Mars and by Menchi, a small bitch supposed to be used as emergency ration. They will be joined thereafter by a Mercenaire, Misaki, and two female Robot S, Ropponmatsu I and Ropponmatsu II, creations of Dr.Shioji.

The radical incompetence of Across and the men of Kababu will never lead to a direct confrontation between the two groups, incompetents to conclude their respective missions. The rare meetings between the two groups on mission will be enough terrifying, with the image of the history of love (if one can express oneself thus) between Excel and Ropponmatsu II. The love of Excel for It Palazzo will in addition be put to the test with the short passage of Key, an agent of Across which will miss making capsize its heart.

Whereas Kababu has just set up a Sentaï, the Municipal Rangers Daïtenzin, one second invasion of Puchu destroys F City. Excel is left for died in a F City in ruins, dominated by It Palazzo which benefitted from confusion to seize the power. After having destroyed the gangs which badger the survivors, Excel Retrouve It Palazzo… But this last draws a ball in full heart to him. It is helped by the Municipal one To arrange. Characters

Koshi Rikdo : Creator d'" Excel Saga". He appears at each beginning of episode to validate the variations of the producers of the series compared to his manga original. In the first episode, Excel has the role of eliminating it, but it is not able to kill it because it is its creator. ()

Puchu : Extraterrestrial of nice and completely inoffensive appearance. They are actually wild and avid creatures of conquests, revealing a hideous face when they are struck. ()

The parody and humor in Excel Saga

Excel Saga is a series being defined as experimental animation. For this reason, the Humor is him also rather experimental, even new in Japanese animation.

Each episode is the pretext to introduce a new topic or a new kind and will be the pretext with a parody of this style (Science-fiction, romantic history, Post-apocalyptic, whodunnit, etc). All the commonplaces of these kinds are diverted in a rather brutal and caustic way, while not hesitating to refer to the world of the Animation like cinema. Humor is thus due to these diverted situations but also to the extreme characters of the characters, being locked up in their madnesses and their psychoses. The recourse to the Absurde is also frequent (for example: in the third episode, Excel is lost in a Virgin forest, which abruptly proves to be with some blocks of houses from it). This nonsense is found until in the credits of end, parodies Enka interpreted by a dog Menchi.

Called upon humor is as well often turned towards the culture of the Japan, making reference to the kitchen, the song and the codes specific to this country, which can make certain gags obscure for an European.

Doubling

Excel is doubled by Kotono Mitsuishi, known for its roles in Evangelion or Sailor Moon.

The credits of beginning are interpreted by the doubling frame Yumiko Kobayashi, which appears as such in the cartoon!

Excel Saga with the Japan and in the world

The series was doubled in English, French and Italian.

The diffusion with the Japan took place in 1999 and was weekly.

At the the United States and in England, the series arrived in 2002 directly in video after having been Fansub bée by the group SAHA.

In France, the rights of the series were acquired by Dynamic Vision. An edition in DVD took place. It includes/understands two boxes of three DVD each one. The series was diffused daily by Canal+ starting from November 2004, in the emission Kaz' presented by Yannick Zicot, except for episode 26 “Energy too far”, diffused on Thursday, December 30 towards 1:00 of the morning for reasons of complete absence of limits morals.

Interactions between realization, manga and OAV

There exist many interactions between the Manga of Excel Saga , the staff of the Anime and 2 OAV Puni Punished Poemi which was carried out after Excel Saga , and which tells events later being held a few years.

And so on. One of the key of the Humor of the series is to mix the real characters and the fiction.

This type of humor is not new, in 1980 already, Akira Toriyama largely utilized itself in its comic series Dr. Slump .
