Exalead

Exalead is a Search engine French said new generation. He proposes new functionalities compared to the traditional search engines such Google or AltaVista.

Exalead allows, like the majority of the current search engines, the search of sounds and video, but its originality comes from the advanced functions, like the previsualisation of a page in bottom of the screen but also the possibility of refining the results of research according to criteria of locality, types of documents and terms associated. Lastly, it makes it possible to create and manage a selection of favorite sites available directly on the banner page, making it possible in a click to go on its preferred pages (a reduced image of each site their is associated).

The standard option of research allows a phonetic research which proves to be practical when one does not know the orthography of the mot. For the bold ones, Exalead allows a research by rational Expressions, which can be useful, for example, with the Cruciverbiste S (/aut...bi.../)

Exalead belongs to the French program Quaero in which it is responsible for the project of search engine.

Product ranges

The Exalead search engines are divided into five Product ranges:

  • Exalead one:workgroup
  • Exalead one:enterprise
  • Exalead one:datacenter

The news Product ranges integrates the taking into account of the Métadonnée S for the semantic Web.

There exist Exalead gadgets: a bar of Exalead tools for Firefox and Internet Explorer; for the user S of Firefox and Internet Explorer version 7, the possibility of adding it to the search bar and of adding the form of Exalead research on a Web site; a module of research exalead for Netvibes; a Bookmarklet allowing to add of a click the site visited the selection of its favorite sites of the banner page of exalead.

In April 2006, Exalead integrates flows RSS.

A version desktop left in June 2005.

August 2nd, 2006, Exalead left the béta its new interface Web, then the October 10th 2006, passed it in version general public. At the end of December 2006, more than 8.074.618 964 pages are indexed.

Between April and May 2007, Exalead launches, in version béta, the possibility of including or of excluding from research the blogs or the forums, research on Wikipédia and the video research.

Exalead and competition

In spite of many innovations, Exalead remains an search engine little used, and ignored general public, far behind the giants of the sectors Google, Yahoo, and Msn. However, Exalead is not only one gate of research. Its independent source of incomes comes from B2B, and on this market, it has one competitor: Google!
