Died of Jean III of the Brabant, occurred the December 5th 1355, his/her oldest daughter Jeanne, wife of Venceslas of Luxembourg, succeeded the throne of the Brabant. This succession was however disputed to him by the count of Flanders, Louis de Male, which invades the duchy and seized Brussels. In the night of the October 24th 1356, Everard 'T Serclaes climbed the walls of the city to the head of patriots of Brussels and pared the Flemish troops out of the city.

Thanks to this knack, the city was taken again by the ducal garrison, and Jeanne and Venceslas made their merry entry in Brussels.

After having been five times alderman of the city, Everard 'T Serclaes died the March 31st 1388, assassinated to have defended the rights of the city against the lord of Gaesbeek.
