Evanescence is a group of Hard rock to female song created into 1996 being inspired at the beginning by their career groups by Glam rock'n'roll, as well as artists like Björk, Marilyn Manson and Tori Amos.

Biography

Beginnings

The cofounders Amy Lynn Lee and Ben Moody met during their adolescence, in a summer camp. Ben has one day heard Amy play piano I' D Do Anything For Love Meat Loaf, it went to its meeting and asked him to sing for him. Filled with wonder by the voice at the young singer, he proposed to him to found with him a group. Evanescence had been born one week after their meeting.

The group made its beginnings with Little Rock (Arkansas, the United States) in the years 1990. Influenced by a collection of great scale of artists like Björk, Marilyn Manson, Danny Elfman and Tori Amos, the group starts to leave several EP by their own means. Without same the benefit in concerts (due obvious to impossible financing), Evanescence started to be made a reputation. Just 50 to 100 copies here and there, they were not whereas banked-up beds and they wanted to sell some CD at the time of concerts. They were not official discs, just demonstrations to transmit their message: “We are of Little Rock, Arkansas”. And for some reason, the local radio decided to pass in mass one of their song; Understanding , which was according to Ben Moody “a ridiculous anthem Gothic 7 minutes”. However this song enabled them to gain notoriety enormously and to be joined by a third member, David Hodges .

Origin and demonstrations

With them three and with the assistance of some guests (in particular Rocky Gray , who will become the future official beater, or William Boyd , which will become as for him the bass player), they leave their first true album entitled Origin . This one will run out with 2500 copies and is torn off now with the biddings on Internet. Ceaseless recordings of demonstrations will follow, like Tourniquet , Haunted , Before the Dawn , Everybody' S Fool , Bring me to Life , Hello , Breathe No More , Missing , My Last Breath , Taking Over Me (etc), the majority of these titles besides will be published and re-recorded for the album Fallen which will disappoint well the “fans” of first hour.

Fallen : The revelation

Thanks to their new assets (into famous and financial), Evanescence decides to engage of the permanent musicians: Rocky Gray with the battery and John LeCompt with the guitar (Ben Moody having the role of principal guitarist and David Hodges having left the group). The group can be finally allowed to be represented on scene and multiplies the concerts, until being made notice and obtain a contract with Wind Up Records. From this alliance will be born the album Fallen , left in March 2003. It is Amy Lee and Ben Moody themselves which write all their songs, of the words to the melodies. Moreover, the presence of the compositions Bring Me To Life (in duet with Paul McCoy the singer of 12 Stones), My Immortal and Eternal on the Original soundtrack of the film Daredevil will increase the celebrity of the group, which will become world thereafter. Fallen is sold to 13 million copies universally, including 6.5 million only in the USA. The group gains two prestigious Grammy Awards: better song rock'n'roll ( Bring Me To Life ) and better new artist.

Evanescence begins their world tour then, engaging with the passage William Boyd with low. However, right in the middle of the round, Ben Moody, cofounder, lyric writer and principal guitarist decide to leave the group and put themselves on his own account (writing for example songs for Avril Lavigne). Evanescence trembles on its foundations, but Amy reassures the fans: it is out of the question to give up the music. After many castings, it will be Terry Balsamo (ex-guitarist of Cold) which will be retained to replace Ben. The round can continue, and the group prepares to write their next album.

In 2004, Amy Lee made a duet with the group Seether (of which the singer and leader of the group, Shaun Morgan, was his/her boyfriend until 2006) whose title is Broken .

Open The Door

The new very awaited album of Evanescence, heading The Open Door (“the open door”) left on October 3rd, 2006 with a first individual Call Me When You' Re Sober already left at the beginning of August. Amy Lee, according to a recent interview, finds it “ten times better” than the precedent.

According to several sources, Amy Lee returned its management Rider Management Inc. It is continued today for breach of contract, on the other hand is continued to him for sexual harassment towards Amy. According to management, Evanescence must still leave two albums. In addition, Amy Lee declared on the official forum of the group which work in studio occurred to wonder, although all was not always held as envisaged. Indeed, Terry Balsamo (guitarist) was reached of an infarction and spent time to the hospital, which slowed down the writing of the album. Amy Lee also confirmed to have written songs the film Le Monde de Narnia , unfortunately rejected because deemed “too dark and too epic”. Amy Lee declared besides that it would not change its musical vision for a film.

The second individual one extracted from this album is Lithium, a ballade which does not remain about it less not accentuated by stronger passages.

After the clip of Cal Me When You' Re Sober , Evanescence makes public on November 28th its clip, Lithium , which would have to leave into individual on December 4th, but according to certain rumors, the individual one is moved, and will leave on March 12th indeed. At the time of one in the concerts of the group, in Toronto, Amy Lee announces with the public that the 3rd individual one will be " All That I' m For" Living room;.

The recording company, seeing the disappointed fans of this decision decided to change the 3rd individual one which will be thus " Sweet Sacrifice" , song with multiple talents.

The Open Door opened many ways with the group, and in particular a more important fame in the medium. Thus, after having carried out a recovery of one their songs, Thoughtless, Amy Lee records a duet with KoRn at the time of their new Unplugged recorded in the studios of MTV.Ce duet, an acoustic version da the song Freak One has Leash de KoRn, will be the first individual one extracted CD.

Running April 2007 - May 2007, one learns the departure from John LeCompt and Rocky Gray. Several explanations were given. However, the round is not cancelled. The guitarist and the beater are thus respectively replaced by Troy McLawhorn and Will Hunt, both resulting from the group Dark New Day.Amy declared besides in an interview of July 2007 that environment within the group was only better in company of these two new musicians, and that it was happy to start a new round, Family Values Tower, in company of KoRn, with them.

A few days later, Amy Lee announces that the fourth individual one to promote The Open Door will be " Good Enough" a charming ballade that the singer judges " optimiste".

The group in the beginning was regarded as a group of Christian Rock as much by its first fans that by the trade-circuits, before affirming not to want to be classified like tel.
