Eusko Alkartasuna (or EA ) is a Basque Political party of nationalist tendency and indépendatiste.
It is located in all " euskal herria" ( Basque Country in language Basque), i.e. three Basque-Spanish provinces of the Guipuscoa, Biscay and Alava, the the Community forale of Navarre and the Iparralde (French Basque Country).

It is about a party of tendency Social-démocrate (of left) and not-denominational (in opposition to PNV).
Its name (in Basque) means: Solidarity basque.
Its origin is caused by a scission with the Parti nationalist Basque (EAJ-PNV) in 1986. EA is then creates in September 1987, with lun first congress with Pampelune. Carlos Garaikoetxea was then elected first président.
The scission seems to be caused by:

  • a conflict of personality between Garaikoetxea and the leader of the PNV Xabier Arzalluz.
  • the organization of the Basque Country:
    • a central Basque government extremely and weak provinces (EA).
    • a provincialism more marked (PNV).
  • an ideological conflict right-hand side (PNV) - left (EA)
This separation was difficult, with a decisive vote in each section.
The name for solidarity in Basque is normally elkartasun . In order to avoid initials EE already taken, it is the form used in Biscay which was choisie.
He is member of the European free Alliance.
Its leading is Begoña Errazti.
The representative of Eusko Alkartasuna in Iparralde (French Basque Country) is Manex Pagola.
Since the elections of March 2004, it has a Député with the the Spanish Cortes, with Madrid. This seat was carried in the electoral Circonscription of Guipúzcoa, the province where EA always makes its best score. Eusko Alkartasuna holds this seat since 1993. Only in 1989, EA succeeds in obtaining a second élu.
In coalition with ERC and the Chunta Aragonesista, it gained a seat with the the European Parliament in 2004 (Europa list of los Pueblos). This seat will be occupied, in turn, during the Life legislature (2004-2009), by a Catalan elected official, Basque (Mikel Irujo Amezaga) and aragonais.
In Navarre, the party is member of the coalition of the various Basque nationalist parties, Nafarroa Bai.
