Eurosa

Eurosa is the name of one of the four sub-genera of the kind Rosa (rose trees and wild roses), family of the Rosacée S. It is most important by far, it gathers the great majority of the species of the kind.

General characteristics

Origin and distribution

The rose trees of the sub-genus Eusosa are distributed in almost all the diffusion area of the kind Rosa : Europe, Asia and North America.

Subdivisions

This sub-genus is subdivided in 11 sections:

  • Banksianae , rose trees with white and yellow flowers of China,
  • Bracteatae , three species Asian, including two of China and one of India,
  • Caninae , species with pink and white flowers of Asia, Europe and North Africa,
  • Carolinae , rose trees with flowers white, pink and pink shining of North America,
  • Chinenses , rose trees with flowers white, pink, yellow, red and multicoloured of China and of Burma,
  • Cinnamomeae , the rose trees “grooves”, rose trees with flowers white, pink, lilacs, bilberry and reds present in all the diffusion area of the kind except the North Africa,
  • Gallicanae , rose trees with flowers pink with crimson or mixed of Western Asia and Europe,
  • Gymnocarpae , small group of species being different by the null and void receptacle on the fruit; a species comes from North America ( Rosa gymnocarpa ), the others of Eastern Asia,
  • Laevigatae , only one species with white flowers originating in China,
  • Pimpinellifoliae , rose trees with flowers white, pink, yellow shining, mauves and pink shandy of Asia and Europe,
  • Synstylae , rose trees with white, pink flowers and crimsons of all the diffusion area of the kind.
