European standard of emission Euro
The emission standards Euro fix the maximum limits of pollutant emissions for the travelling vehicles. It is about a whole of increasingly strict standards applying to the new vehicles. The objective is to even limit to reduce the Pollution atmospheric due to the road Transport.
The EU law is increasingly severe on the rejections of the diesel engines. The emission standards “Euro” follow one another. The implementation is made within times slightly shifted for the engines diesel and gasoline
- Euro 1: vehicles brought into service between 1993 and 1996
- Euro 2: vehicles brought into service between 1996 and 2000
- Euro 3: vehicles brought into service between 2000 and 2004
- Euro 4: vehicles brought into service between 2005 and 2007
- Euro 5: applicable to the horizon 2008/2009

The Euros standards remain the theoretical measurements, calculated on vehicles deprived of options, following standardized cycles which are not an image representative of the real walk of the vehicles on the roads. The engines moreover are regulated to respect the standard in the legal framework. The values very quickly fly away for example when the vehicles exceed the 130km/h, authorized Maximum speed in France. He does not remain about it less than these engines produce, at equal power, less pollutant emissions than of the engines of old generation.
Legal polemic and limits
These standards evolve/move regularly and force the manufacturers of engines to modify technologies also employed they dispute the limiting values or require complementary times for their implementation.
The diesel engines produce particles (almost absent from emissions of the cars gasoline), but it is now increasingly certain that the finest particles (thus the least massive) are most toxic. The standard not measuring that the mass of the particles thus supports in priority the elimination of the least toxic particles (and since the quasi-systematic installation of Turbocompresseur S on the diesel engines particles which it reject became finer).
As the standard applies only to the new sold vehicles, certain retailers do not hesitate to make register new cars before the deadline to resell them on occasion with 0km. On another side vehicles of more than 2500kg (large 4x4 mainly) which are logically animated by a large engine and thus pollute in proportion regularly obtain additional times before being put at the standards.
