European legal Space

The installation of a European legal space takes an increasing place in the European Construction, in particular since the opening of the borders in the Espace Schengen.

The Lutte against terrorism started again the efforts in several fields, like the European Warrant for arrest.

History

August 1st

As of 1977, the President Valery Giscard d'Estaing had proposed, during a meeting of the European Council to Brussels, the creation of a European legal space.

The Traité of Maastricht (1992) introduced the dimension of the co-operation as regards justice and interior matters, within the European Construction. This dimension is the subject of the third pillar of the European Union.

It is in 1996 that several Magistrat S required the installation of European legal space, at the time of the Appel of Geneva.
