European agency for the environment

The European Agence for the environment (AEE) is an agency of the European Union dedicated to the safeguarding and the monitoring of the European Environnement , in activity since 1994.

Objectives

The AEE supports the Sustainable development and supports the significant improvement and measurable European Environnement by providing convenient information, targeted, relevant and reliable with the decision makers and the public.

It allows the European Union and the Member States to take in good full knowledge of the facts of the decisions concerning the improvement of the environment, to take account of the environmental requirements in the economic policies and to progress on the way of sustainable development.

To carry out this mission, it places at the disposal a large range of information and evaluations. Those relate on the state of the environment and the tendencies noted in this field, like to the pressures exerted on the environment and the economic forces and social which animate them.

She also studies the policies implemented and their effectiveness. She tries to determine the tendencies, the prospects and the problems which could occur in the future by means of scenarios and other techniques. She publishes a certain number of reports/ratios each year and - more and more - `dispatches', information dedicated to particular problems.

Creation

It was established in 1990 by a payment. It is coming into effect in 1993, and became operational in 1994.
