European Popular party
The European Popular party is a party Christian Democrat - preserving gathering parties Christian Democrats and conservatives among the countries of the European Union and also, as observers, among the States candidates with adhesion at the EU. The European popular party has a group with the the European Parliament. The EPP is described as “a family of the political centers of which the roots are enracinent in the history of European civilization. It links the similar national parties, in the Member States of the EU and the applicant countries at the EU and valley maintaining a contact close with the applicant countries.”
History
The party was created in August 1976 by parties Christian Democrats federalistic S, the such CDU - CSU German, the Center of the social democrats (CDS) in France or the Christian Democrat in Italy. Of its creation in 1976 until 1983, the party was directed by the French deputy Jean Seitlinger. It widened during the years 1990 with other parties not sharing such federalistic ideals, such Forza Italia in 1998 or the Rassemblement for the Republic in 1999. At the request of Jacques Chirac, it removed its statutes any reference to the " The United States d' Europe" in 2001.
Group in the European Parliament
Since the European elections of June 2004, it numerically sets up the parliamentary group most important, with 264 of the 732 seats. EPP is currently composed of parties following, divided into 40 parties full members (those which result from Member States of the EU), 11 associated members (resulting from Bulgaria and Romania; they have a right to vote on the questions not concerning the EU), and 17 observant members without right to vote (for example the Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi (Left for justice and the development) Turkish).
By accommodating the preserving British, the group of the EPP was transformed into group of the European Popular party (Christian Democrats) and of the European Democrats (PPE-DE), accepting the requests of the " tories" to be able to vote against the the Treaty of Rome of 2004 (European Constitutional treaty).
In front of the abandonment by the EPP of its federalistic line following its opening to political trainings Eurosceptics (such as the preserving British or the members of Forza Italia), certain adherent parties, like the UDF, left the EPP in 2004 to found the European Democratic party which gathers federalists " centristes" , including left like the elected officials of Margherita of Romano Prodi and which sits at the Parliament within the group of the Alliance of the democrats and the liberals for Europe (ADLE) with the Liberals of ELDR.
Within the Committee of the areas, the elected officials members of the EPP are gathered within a group EPP.

Young people of the European Popular party (Yepp)
The EPP has a young branch, the Young European People' S Party (Yepp, or Jeunes of the European Popular party), which gathers the youth organizations of the parties members of the EPP.
EDS (federation of student trade unions)
The European Democrat Students (EDS) is the main confederation of student trade unions of right-hand side and the center at the European level. The French university organization PLAIN is member.
EMS Union (union of leaders of SME)
The Small and Medium Contractors Union gathers since 1996 the politicians, parties and European leaders anxious to promote the company spirit and more particularly to defend the interests of the Small and medium-size companies in the policies of the European Union.
The UETDC (trade unions of workers)
The European Union of the Workers Christian-Democrats (UETDC) gathers 22 organizations in 16 European countries. No French trade unions is member.
EPP-woman
Association which promotes the women's rights and their role in policy within the EPP.
European Union of seniors (ESU)
The European Union of the seniors (European Seniors Citizens Union - ESU) is asserted like the " larger European political organization of seniors. She bases her action on three principles: " Christian vision of the man; the aspiration of the men to freedom and solidarity; the ethnic, economic and social requirements do not constitute antagonisms but rather harmonize the ones with the autres."

The EPP counted, at May 1st, 2006, 69 parties members. Only political trainings of Member States of the European Union can have the statute of full members. This condition is not exclusive.
