European Political party

The European political party , or formally political party at the European level, is a type of organization of political party in the European Union, eligible to receive funds of the Union. Article 191 of the Traité of Maastricht quotes “the political parties at the European level are the important factor for integration in the Union. Those contribute to form a European conscience and to express the political will of the citizens of the Union. ” This is also codified in the draft treaty establishing a constitution for Europe which states in article 45 (4) that the political parties at the European level contribute to form the European political conscience and to express the will of the European Union.

Coming from this provision, number 2004/2003 of payment (EC.) of the European Parliament and the Council of November 4th, 2003 presents the payments governing of the political parties of European level; and rules concerning their financing.

Several European political parties were created, based on the groups of alliances of parties and parties of the European Parliament at the European level.
