European Numeric library
The European Numeric library or BNuE is a project of Numeric library of the European Union. The objective of the BNE is to create a cultural heritage European and transnational, in form Numérique, accessible since Internet and free for free works of right.
Concretely, the BNE is a pooling of the numerical resources of the national libraries of the 25 Member States. One understands by resources: delivers S, material audio-visual, Photographie S, documents of files, etc For that, the States are committed digitizing their currently preserved contents in a traditional way, to make them available on the Web and to ensure the conservation of those under digital form for the future generations. The project envisages to appeal, in addition to the national libraries, with the European libraries, the services of filings and the Musée S.
From the point of view of the use, initially, the European Numeric library uses the site of the European Bibliothèque (The European Library) , organization gathering various national libraries, including out of the European Union. In the long term, it is expected that there is one site to centralize all information in order to make the culture easily accessible on Internet.
For the moment, all the members of the EU are Recipients in the project, except the the United Kingdom.
The European commission recognizes that the initiative of Google with the project Google Book Search (in the past Google Print ) had the merit to lead the European countries to question itself on the European inheritance.
At the time of the Living room of the book of Paris, in March 2007, the National library of France presented a model of the European Numeric library baptized Europeana and consisted of an hard core of 12.000 documents resulting from the funds of the libraries main road from France, Hungary and Portugal.
Coupling with the project of European search engine
The project of numeric library is coupled with the project of European search engine Quaero. It should be noted that such a project requires Registres of metadata in order to function effectively.

2006 : Collaboration enters the national libraries of the 25 Member States and use of the gate The European Library .
- 2008 : At least, 2 million works will be digitized and will have to be consultable and usable.
- 2010 : 6 million digitized works. Opening to other types of documents.
