European Council of Gothenburg
The European Council of Gothenburg was held June 15th and 16th 2001 with Gothenburg in Sweden.
This Council widened the objectives of the Stratégie of Lisbon to the environment and the Sustainable development.

“Point central in the day order, the European Council approved a strategy of Sustainable development and added the dimension of the environment to the strategy of Lisbon. In this context, the strategy thus defined rests on the principle according to which it is necessary to examine in a coordinated way the economic consequences, social and environmental of all the policies and to hold of it account in the decision-making process. Good progresses in the development and the implementation of the strategy will be regularly evaluated by the European Council at his annual sessions of spring. The European Council, highlighted in addition the planetary dimension of the Sustainable development and retained, initially, four priority fields of action: The Climate change, transport, public health, and natural stock management. ”
