Euromet

EUROMET is an organization created in September 1987 with Madrid and including/understanding in an original manner the national laboratories of Métrologie of the countries of the European Union, the European Free Trade Association and of the Commission of the European Communities. It is now also opened in all the European countries in order to develop the co-operation between the national laboratories of metrology and to ensure an effective use of the means available in metrology.

Goals

  • To develop between the members a closer cooperation in work concerning the standard S.
  • To optimize the use of the resources and the services available to the members.
  • To improve the metrological services offered and to make them available to all the member.
  • to make sure that the new benches of calibration carried out within the framework of EUROMET are opened with all the members.

Modes of action

  • Coordination of the studies concerning the standards.
  • Coordination of the important investments for the metrological means.
  • Transfer of competence enters the members the field.
  • Establishment of a framework of collaboration graft members interested by a particular project.
  • Placed at the disposal of information on the resources and services.
  • Co-operation with the European organizations of accreditation.
  • Co-operation with the European services of legal metrology.

Financing and structure

EUROMET does not have equities and functions on the basis of voluntary participation. The labor costs of co-operation and research are dealt with by the participating laboratories, the members preserving their total autonomy. But the external financings are not excluded, in particular by the participation in the research programs of the European Community.

Each member (national organization of metrology) elects a delegate, the unit training the General meeting of EUROMET. This one at least once meets per annum in order to discuss goals and objectives of EUROMET. The president of EUROMET is elected for two years and places at the disposal the secretariat necessary.
