The Eurobot contest

Created in 1998 under the impulse of association Planet Sciences, Eurobot is a Concours of Robotique international amateur opened to the teams of young people, gathered in projects of students or independent clubs. Eurobot is held in Europe but also accommodates the countries of the other continents. In 2004, 21 countries, represented by 250 teams, were implied in this scientific and technical contest, through the national qualifications and the international final.

The spirit “Eurobot”

To encourage the practice of science in a friendly spirit

Eurobot proposes, through the technique and the Project management, the fair play, solidarity, the division of the technical training and the creativity rather than the competition. The goal of the contest is to interest the maximum of people in robotics and to promote the practice of science within groups of young people. National Eurobot and its qualifications are intended to be held in a friendly and sporting spirit. Thus Eurobot is more than one contest of design for young people, it acts of a pretext for technical imagination, the exchanges of ideas, know-how, easy ways and informations around a common challenge. The creativity and the interdisciplinarity are stakes of this contest. Technical and cultural enrichment of it is the goal. To conclude, in this competition everyone gains knowledge, experiment and friends: not only those which finish in the first but also those whose robot less better functioned and who were made eliminate during the matches.

A European contest opened in the world

Eurobot takes place in Europe, but it is opened with all the countries. The countries presenting more than three teams must organize a national qualification (also called national cut) in order to select only three teams. The multinational teams are of course the welcomes. The organization of Eurobot and its qualifications national call upon the many voluntary ones of all nationalities which believe in the educational values of this experiment. It is for the majority of the former participants.

A payment renewed every year

The payment of the contest changes every year in order not to disadvantage the new teams and to stimulate those which already took part. However some points remain identical: the matches last approximately 1 min and 30 S, the robots must fall under a fixed volume and the adventure playground is defined by a table of 2 m out of 3 m with a more or less complex topology.

Not only one contest but also of the conferences, the demonstrations and the festival!

The companies see an interest in this event, indeed they can contact students whom they will be able to engage and they can also make known their activities. They also benefit from this competition to show progress of their developments in the field of the robot-like . Conferences are also organized by professionals for submission to the students and of the public. Environment during Eurobot resembles more that of a festival of robotics than to a severe competition. Do not be surprised to meet a pink rabbit or a person with the green hair among the many mascots and the supporters. With nearly 1500 people on the spot impassioned by robotics you do not have time to annoy you! Generally at the end of the contest a great festival is organized for the participants and them supporters. After 8 months of hard work, tests and sleepless nights before the matches, we attend a song outburst of joy, costumes, mascots…

National qualifications

National qualifications take place since a country has more than three teams. In 2005, it was the case for:

These qualifications take place in general enters at the end of April and at the end of May.

The international final

The three better teams of each country meet traditionally during the weekend of the rise for the final.

Between 1998 and 2004, the final took place with the Ferté-Bernard, close to the Mans in the the Sarthe, where is organized the cut of France of robotics since 1995 (in 1994, it took place in the buildings of the central École Paris). Then starting from 2005, Eurobot changes every year of organizing country: Yverdon-the-Baths in Swiss for 2005, Catane in Italy for 2006, and again the Ferté-Bernard for 2007.
