Tests of EuroNCAP
In order to ensure a great reliability these tests, Euro NCAP carried them out on vehicles acquired anonymously near the manufacturers. In this way, the evaluation was made on a product similar so that the consumer will buy and not product given by the manufacturer who could be advantageously improved. Certain new vehicles were tested on vehicles given by the manufacturer before their marketings.Each vehicle tested sudden:
- a frontal shock on a deformable barrier to 64 km/h;
- a side shock on a deformable mobile barrier at a speed of 50 km/h;
- a side shock against a post of 25,4 cm width carried out on the level of the conducting seat to 29 km/h;
- a pedestrian shock on two mannequins representing an adult and a child.
With resulting from the wounds of the occupants of the vehicle, i.e. biomechanical mannequins (of an unit value of 100.000 €) two adults, a child of 1 year 1/2 and another 3 years, a number of points is allotted.
It varies between 0 and 37 points to decree from 0 to 5 stars. The frontal shock makes it possible to obtain up to 16 points, 16 points for the side shock, 2 points for the “shock of the post” plus 3 points no-claims bonus according to the number of alarms of Safety belt not buckled. In March 2000, because of the constant evolution of the points obtained by the vehicles, it was decided to create a fifth star for the vehicles which obtain between 32,5 and 34 points. The first vehicle to have obtained 5 stars was the Renault Laguna II in 2001. Since, about thirty vehicles obtained this maximum note.
The highest note ever allotted (36/37) was it with the restylée Citroen C5 and with the Mercedes-Benz Classe has (left in 2004).
In 2007, the Nissan Qashqai obtains the maximum note (37/37), while the Nouvelle FIAT 500 obtains the best score of the category of the microcars (35/37).
