Eurabia

Eurabia is a against-utopian scenario where the Europe amalgamates with the Islamic world thanks to a process of Islamisation political and cultural of Europe. Like 1984 , the term is used to be opposed to the against-utopian scenario and is intentionally pejorative. Bat Ye' gold popularized the term which was employed in the beginning mainly to describe the arabo-European hostility against Israel and the support of the European Union to PLO. Consequently, its significance was wide and evolved/moved: this term is now mainly used to describe a transformation of the European Union, where the Islam becomes the system of value dominating and the population comprises Musulmans more and more. (The use of the term is not limited any more only to the report/ratio of the Europe with the Arab Monde). The term is generally used in combination with Dhimmitude, thus indicating a supposed attitude of concession, rendering and the appeasing towards the Moslem requirements.

Used at the origin only in the political circles, the term entered the everyday usage of the media (including the first page of The Economist), often referring to the failure of the assimilation of the population Musulmane European, young and in strong growth, and of the reports/ratios tended while rising.

There is no specific name for the belief in Eurabia and any official ideology d'" Eurabia-isme".

Those which see the scenario of Eurabia like reality, generally believe that:

the Islam is hostile and incompatible with the values of the Occident Judéo-chrétien;
that there is a very significant number of Musulmans in Europe and that their presence is a deliberated strategy;
that the Musulmans will be majority in Europe in some generations;
that all or the majority of the Musulmans want a Europe Islamized and that the political elite and cultural European supports this objective.

Moreover, they are hostile with the multiculturalism which they see like belonging to the Eurabia strategy and are Eurosceptics since they see the EU like the executant of this strategy.

Eurabia is used by certain indicating a Conspiration and can thus be described like a theory of conspiracy: Oriana Fallaci mentioned Eurabia like " the greatest conspiracy which the modern history has créée".

Origin of the term

Eurabia was in the beginning the title of a bulletin published by the European Comité of the coordination of associations of friendship with Arab world. According to Beats Ye' gold, it was published in collaboration with Arab France-Countries (the newspaper of Solidarity association free-Arabic or ASFA), Middle East International (London) and the Groupe of Studies on the Middle East (Geneva). There is no group of this name to the Université of Geneva, but there are a Groupe of research and studies on the Mediterranean and the Middle East (GREMMO) with the Université of Lyon II, and one of its members is the Academic institute of studies of the development (IUED) to the Université of Geneva.

During the Oil crisis of 1973, the European Economic community (the predecessor of the European Union), entered the Euro-Arab dialog with the Arab Ligue. Bat Ye' gold used the title of the Eurabia newspaper later in order to describe the Euro-Arab dialog and associated this term with the political events. The term did not have in the beginning any pejorative intention and any connotation similar to its use present: Bat Ye' gold was the first to use it this way, particularly in its book left in 2005. (In Germany, “Eurabia” is used in the names of several companies businesses, like Eurabia Schifffahrts-Agentur GMBH and the Eurabia Turns).

Bat Ye' gold sees Eurabia (the political process) as the result of a European policy directed by France whose intention first was to increase the capacity of the Europe vis-a-vis the the United States by aligning its interests with those of the Arab countries. She regards this process as the main cause of the European hostility with regard to Israel. She describes it in the following way:

"A machinery which made the Europe the new continent of Dhimmitude was installation there is more than 30 years at the instigation of the France. A wide policy then was initially outlined, a symbiosis of Europe with the Moslem countries Arab, which would equip Europe - and particularly France, the principal instigator of the project - with a weight and a prestige to compete with that of the the United States. This policy was undertaken completely discreetly, outside the official treaties, under the innocent name of the Euro-Arab dialog… This strategy, of which the goal was the creation of an entity of Euro-Arab of the side-Mediterranean, allowing freedom of movement of the men and the goods, also determined the immigration policy of the Muslim populations in the European Community. And during the 30 last years, it was also established a cultural policy appropriate to the schools and at the universities of the EEC… the Arabs establish conditions with this association:

# a European foreign politics who independent and would be opposed to that of the United States;

# recognition by Europe of the Palestinian People and the creation of a Palestinian State;

# supports It the EEC with PLO;

# the designation of Yasser Arafat like the single and exclusive representative of the Palestinians;

# the delegitimisation of the State of Israel, as well historically as politically, its contraction in nonviable borders and the Arabisation of Jerusalem.

Of that rose the war hidden from Europe against Israel, the economic boycotts, the Israeli boycotts of academic, deliberated slandering, and the diffusion as well of the Anti-Zionism as of new the Antisémitisme.

More briefly, she recapitulates it in National Review in the following way:

"The economic greed of Europe was instrumentalisée by the policy of the Arab Ligue in a long-term government scheme aiming Israel, Europe and America… By the labyrinth of the system of the Euro-Arab dialog, a policy of delegitimisation of Israel was projected on the levels as well national as international of the EEC… Stratégiquement, the Euro-Arab co-operation was a political instrument for the Anti-américanisme in Europe, from which the goal was to separate and weaken the two continents by an incentive with the hostility and the permanent denigration of the American policy to the the Middle East. "

Current use

The current use of the term is broader than the version given by Bat Ye' gold, less attention is related to the relations free-Arabic but immigration and less given demographic of the Muslim populations are proposed. The Eurabia theory, like its partisans presents it in the media, blogs, forums Internet and other online magazines, includes these elements:

the Islam is incompatible with the values European and hostile with the western world. The Occident is engaged in a certain form of Guerre or conflict of civilization with Islam.
Islam seeks to replace European civilization and its values by its own version Islamique. Islam would like Europe where the Mosquée S replace the church S and the Charia replaces the various European legal systems.
Western civilization is explicitly Judéo-chrétienne and the hostility Musulmane is partly nun.
the Musulmans make continual requests in order to impose their eigenvalues: the concessions lead to more requests. All the Moslems adopt this attitude of requirement, since it belongs to their religion.
These requests are also intended to place nonthe Moslems (Juifs and Chrétiens) in a statute of dhimmi and the majority of the Moslems find that it is the only suitable statute for nonthe Moslems.
These requests should be swept, but the European governments, the media and of the elites successively fail to do it. They even préemptivement make concessions with the Moslems, including by self-censorship. Their attitude is dhimmitude - the servile attitude of dhimmi weak in a company dominated by the Moslems. The dhimmitude is an act of treason against Europe and Western civilization.
Moslem immigration in Europe is a strategy, in the intention to gain the control of Europe and to replace its nonMoslem population by Moslems: this immigration is thus not economic in its gasoline.
growth of the Muslim population in Europe, by natural increase (strong birth rate) also formed part of this strategy. There are already much more Moslems in Europe than than the official statistics admits and in several generations (at least before 2100) they will be majority. The European governments actively helped this strategy, by allowing the immigration come from the Moslem countries and it is also of treason.
Even before they are majority, the Moslems will dominate the European policy, because of their numbers and the appeasing dhimmi of the politicians and the elites, which fail to resist to them.

Matt Carr skeptic describes the scenario in the following way:

According to the worst of the forecasts of Eurabia, towards the end of the 21e century, the majority of the towns of Europe will be invaded by foreign immigrants speaking Arab, most of the continent will live in accordance with the charia and Christianity will have ceased existing or will be tiny room in a state of dhimmitude… In the nightmare of Eurabia, in the future the past will be repeated again and Christians and Jews will become minorities oppressed out of ground of Islam; the churches and cathedrals will be replaced by mosques and minarets, the call to the prayer will be reflected from Paris to Rotterdam while passing by London and the remainders Judeo-Christians of Europe will have been reduced to small enclaves in a world of speakers bearded Arabists and women veiled by a Burka.

Degree of support for the theory

The Eurabia term is assembled in power, partly because it reflects a more general political tendency, which sees Islam as the principal threat for Europe and its values. Justin Vaisse, who is skeptic as for the transformation asserted by Eurabia, spoke about this evolution to the Brookings Institution:

… I visited bookstores by seeking books there on Islam in Europe. And the only titles and books which I have pus to find, carried of the titles as While Europe sleeps: How the Radical Islam destroys the Occident of the interior , by Bruce Bawer; " The West' S Last Chance: Will We Win the Clash off Civilizations" , by Tony Blankley; " Eurabia, the Axis euro-arabe" by Ye' gold Beats; or " Threaten in Europe: Why the Continent' S Crisis is America' S, Too" , by Claire Berlinski… And more generally, of the authors even more serious like Bernard Lewis or Niall Ferguson write or give interviews on the Islamization of Europe, opposite colonization, the bomb with demographic delayed-action which threaten Europe, and so on, with the suggestion that it is the apocalypse.

Others supported the theory of Eurabia and express close sights, include Oriana Fallaci, Robert Spencer, Daniel Pipes, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and Melanie Philips. When it was still cardinal, the Pape Benoît XVI expressed his concerns as for the erosion of the Christian nature of Europe and was opposed to the accession of the Turkey to the EU. In 2005, the Pope granted an audience to Oriana Fallaci (itself atheistic), and rented its supports for the defense of the Christian heritage of Europe.

Implications and answer

The theory of Eurabia implies that the Moslems in Europe are an important population, dangerous and hostile, a threat for the European culture itself.

Danish Lars Hedegaard of the “Free Close Society” sees Europe probably splitting up in enclaves:

"At the bottom there are two possible results: the Western populations accept their inevitable destiny like dhimmis under Moslem domination, or they resist the appearance of parallel Moslem companies by melting theirs. I.e. they divide their countries into mutually hostile enclaves as in Northern Ireland, Yugoslavia or with the Lebanon. The third option - that the Western States decide to make live side by side the populations of the old majority and the newcomers who want to live like them and with them - would require a transformation of Churchillienne dimension which I cannot prévoir."

The partisans of the theory do not see all “Eurabia” like inevitable. Some are lawyers of the prohibition of Islam, and others of a direct confrontation. In an article entitled “Confrontation, not appeasement”, Ayaan Hirsi Ali require a policy of confrontation at the European level, this in order to seize the threat of the Radical Islam and it compares the not-conflict policy with the attitude of appeasing of Neville Chamberlain with respect to Hitler. Specifically, she proposes:

an attentive control of the population growth of the Muslim population in Europe (EU);
a recording of all the violent incidents against homosexual women, Jews and, while seizing including the religious identity of the criminal;
Europe must recognize the United States and Israel like allies in the fight against the Radical Islam;
the development of alternative energy sources, to reduce the dependence to oil;
a European immigration policy, which conditions the entry with the allegiance with the national constitution;
the immigrants should sign a contract to obey the Constitution and should be expelled if they violate it;
an ideological confrontation with the " generation; infecté" by Radical Islam: all the Moslems must explicitly give up the radical Islam;
" To offer a good education, close all the Islamic schools and to prohibit the opening of nouvelles".
