Euprocte
This kind gathers three species S located in the the Pyrenees like in the mountains of Corsica Sardinia and :
- Euproctus asper (Dugès, 1852) - Euprocte of the Pyrenees
- Euproctus montanus (Savi, 1838) - Corsican Euprocte
- Euproctus platycephalus (Gravenhorst, 1829) - Euprocte of Sardinia
The euprocte of the Pyrenees is an Amphibian urodele which lives almost exclusively in water. When it is young, it has an yellow line on the back. Adult, this one disappear, it becomes maroon/gray then. The male and the female are of aspect identical, one differentiates them by the form from the cesspool which is round in the male and in cone in the female. He lives in the rivers and lake of altitude between 1500 and 2500 Mr. There exist however sites of low altitude, to towards 300 Mr., in the karstic zones of Pyrenean Piedmont.
