Eugene Thomas

Eugene Thomas , French politician, was born the July 23rd 1903 with Old man-Cop (Northern) and is deceased the January 29th 1973.

Biography

Wire of a customs officer, Eugene Thomas becomes teacher and secretary of the departmental section of the National federation of the teachers.

In 1936, he is elected appointed SFIO of North in 1936. He belongs to the commission of Algeria, the colonies and the countries of protectorate, the commission of Alsace-Lorraine, as well as commission of the Customs and commercial conventions.

Mobilized during the Second world war, it takes part in the countryside of Belgium, then with the Bataille of the Sum. Captive fact on this occasion, it cannot be present at the time of the vote of the full powerss at Philippe Pétain.

After its escape, it is devoted to the reconstitution of the socialist federations (within the socialist Comité of action) and to the fight against the occupant (like member, then chief, of the Réseau Brutus). Stopped by the Gestapo in April 1943, tortured and imprisoned with Fresnes for nine months, it is off-set with Buchenwald, where it creates a clandestine socialist section with Georges Brutelle, before being released by the American army, in April 1945.

It finds its seat of deputy in 1945. He is re-elected in 1946,1951 and 1956.

Eugene Thomas is General adviser since 1937 and mayor of the Quesnoy of 1945 to 1947 and 1953 with his death. He opens his city with tourism after the repurchase of the ramparts. He sits at the Economic and Social Council of 1959 to 1964.
