Eugene Simonis

Eugene Simonis is a Belgian Sculpteur , born with Liege in 1810 and deceased in 1882 with Koekelberg close to Brussels.

Biography

After having studied its art near François-Joseph Dewandre with the Academy of Liege, it continued its formation in Italy with Bologna then with Rome at famous the Carlo Finelli. Extremely from this formation to Italian, it returned in Belgium and is established with Brussels where he became director with the royal Académie of Beautiful arts.

Everyone knows of him the statue of Godefroid de Bouillon decorating the Royal Place in Brussels, as well as beautiful the Cénotaphe out of marble of the canon Pierre-Joseph Triest in the Collégiale of Holy-Gudule. It also carried out the pediment of the Théâtre of the Currency in Brussels.

It occupied an important place in the artistic world of its time and took part in the rebirth of Belgian art.
