Eugene Lefèvre-Pontalis

Eugene Lefèvre-Pontalis is a historian of architecture and French archeologist born the February 12th 1862 and dead the October 31st 1923.
Course
After secondary studies with the College Condorcet, Eugene Lefèvre-Pontalis between with the School of the charters. It leaves there in 1885 with a thesis on the religious architecture in the old diocese Soissons at 11th and the 12th centuries , published shortly after and for which he is prize winner of the Institut. It in parallel starts a training course at Simil, architect of the Historic buildings.
At the exit of the School, he becomes librarian of the Library of the learned societies and continues his research. But as of 1894, it is named temporary professor of medieval archeology to the École of the charters, renewing pedagogy by the projection of photographs of its many voyages. He will become professor in 1911. Parallel to his courses and with many publications in erudite reviews, Eugene Lefèvre-Pontalis becomes president of the French company of archeology (1900) and, in 1916, president of the National company of the antique dealers.
The destruction of many old churches of Picardy, Lorraine and Champagne during the First World War constitutes for him a personal drama: it accordingly founds the Company of the friends of the cathedral of Rheims in order to help with its restoration.
Its collection of 14 000 photographs on glass plates, bequeathed to the French company of archeology, from now on is preserved at the Media library of architecture and the inheritance.
