Eugene I Schneider
Joseph Eugene Schneider is an industrialist French, founder of the dynasty of the main of the forging mills of the Creusot, born with Bidestroff (Meurthe) the March 29th 1805 and died in Paris the November 27th 1875.
Biography
Wire of Antoine Schneider (1759 - 1828) and of Catherine Durand, but very quickly orphan, nephew of the general Virgile Schneider, and younger brother of Adolphe Schneider, Eugene Schneider started modestly, initially in a commercial firm of Rheims, then in the Seilliere bank. It was characterized by its direction from the businesses and became, to twenty and one years, director of the forging mills of Bazeilles.When his/her Adolphe brother was named managing director of the Creusot (1833). Eugene Schneider was to him assistant as joint manager under company name " Schneider and Cie" in 1836. It contributed largely to the prosperity of the establishment. In 1842 Adolphe Schneider already mayor of Creusot east elected appointed until its death in 1845 Joseph-Eugene was elected in his place general adviser of the canton of Couches and Montcenis then, the September 13rd 1845, was appointed 5th college of Saône-et-Loire (Autun). Only director of Creusot, it acquired soon a high situation in industry and became member of the general advice of manufactures. He was re-elected appointed the 1846. He supported until the end the policy of Guizot and belonged constantly to the preserving opinion. Its workmen, by allusion undoubtedly to its high face colors, call it " large the rouge". In 1864 he is the first President of the bank General society and he sits among the regents of Banque de France. He presented without success to the constituent Assembly in 1848 and to the legislative Parliament in 1849. Constantly elected appointed of its district during the Second Empire, it was however put in ballot by the liberal candidate (orleanist) Joseph Michon at the elections of 1869.
He was president of the legislative Body under the Second Empire and Grand Cross of Légion of honor.

- Eugene II Schneider (1868- November 17th, 1942);
- Charles Schneider (1898-1960).
Homages
- a statue with its effigy, revealed by Ferdinand de Lesseps, was set up in Creusot in 1879.
- Its name figure on the lathe Eiffel.
