Pierre-Louis Stapleton , known as Eugene Hus is a Danseur and choreographer free - Belgian born with Brussels the July 17th 1758 and died in this same city the February 24th 1823. He is the son of Louis Stapleton, officer Irish in garrison in Brussels, and of Elisabeth Bayard, dancer appearing in the Théâtre of the Currency, known under the pseudonym of “Miss Bibi”.

Forsaken by his father, who sets out again in shift, Pierre-Louis rubs very early with the scene in company of his mother: towards the four years age, he dances in front of the prince Charles-Alexandre of Lorraine which offers 50 ducats in a gold box to him as a reward for its early talents, reads one in the obituary which devotes to him the Journal of Brussels . In 1762, Jean-Baptiste Hus arrives at Brussels like Ballet master, with its mistress Elisabeth Bayard, of return to the Theater of the Currency. The Stapleton young person, adopted by his father-in-law, follows the couple in his peregrinations: they are in particular with Lyon of 1764 with 1767 and of 1770 with 1779, where Pierre-Louis begins his career of ballet master under the direction of his father-in-law.

New turning awaits it Paris, where it is engaged as dancer and ballet master to the Theater-Italian of 1779 with 1780, then it turns over to Lyon where it marries an actress, Miss Soulier. February 9th 1784, it creates there the Balloon , ballet of circumstance devoted to the invention of the Frères Montgolfier, but the public whistles so much the part which she is stopped after the first representation. Called with Bordeaux by Jean Dauberval in 1785, after the rout of the Lyons direction, Pierre-Louis goes up there the Death of Orphée and the Four wire Aymons , ballets created by Jean-Baptiste respectively in 1759 and 1780. It takes then the pseudonym of Eugene Hus . He dances with the Opéra of Paris in 1786, then with London in 1787.

At the time of his return to Bordeaux, Eugene Hus takes share, on July 1st 1789, with the creation of the Ballet of the straw of Dauberval, which will become famous thereafter under the name of the badly kept Girl . After a stay with Rouen, Hus becomes second Master of the ballets of the Opera of Paris in 1793, where it creates the Ballet of the Muses . At the end of the century, the Theater of Gaîté, that of the Young person-Artists and the Op3era Comique engage it as ballet master and creations follow one another it. With the opening of the Theater of the Door Saint Martin's day, on September 30th 1802, Eugene Hus joined the new troop of ballet formed by Jean-Pierre Aumer to succeed to him.

When the imperial decree of 1807 imposes the closing of several Parisian theaters, Hus furrows the province and dances with Bordeaux, Marseilles, Carcassonne, Lyon and Toulouse. At this point in time the administration of the Theater of the Currency proposes the load of manager to him; Hus accepts and takes its functions on December 1st 1814. Three years later, it creates in Brussels the first Conservatoire of dance, that Jean-Antoine Petipa will reorganize in 1826. In addition to the direction of the ballet and Academy, it is “in charge of the festivals of the Court” of Guillaume I {{er}}. In 1819, it makes come from Marseilles Jean-Antoine Petipa and its family and withdraws little by little scene.

With Pierre Gardel and Auguste Vestris, Eugene Hus will have been one of the large founders of the ballet at the 19th century and the direct witness of great political changes and artistic.
