Eugene Ground
Eugene Ground , Canon, was a Historien lotois which wrote many works on the religious and civil history of this department. It was born in 1877 with Laroque-of-Arcs, close to Cahors and died in Bretenoux in July 1953. It was ordered priest after having made his studies in the seminars of Montfaucon (Batch) and of Saint-Sulpice to Paris. Initially vicar with Aynac, it left very quickly for Rome where he was archivist with the École vaticane and chaplain with Saint-Louis of the French.
The Canon Ground returns to France, in 1903, doctor in utroque swears (“in the two rights”, civil and canonical) and graduate of the Files Vaticanes . During nearly one year he is professor of canon law to the Great Seminar of Meaux. But an affection of the voice the constrained one to give up oral teaching.
In 1904, it joined the Quercy. It is named prètre in Saint-Etienne, close to Souillac, then, in 1906, is cleaned in Bégoux, close to Cahors. In 1912, évêché calls it with the Notre-Dame parish of Cahors. It is named Archiviste diocesan as from 1926, honorary Chanoine in 1929, titular Chanoine in 1942. It was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, in July 1933.
Work
Its written work, impressive with its volume, relates to initially a scientist canonist, Giacomino Simoneta, then the history of the relations between France and the Italy of XIIe century at the end of the 1st Empire. Its book on this subject is appeared in 1905.The Canon Ground devotes himself then to the history of Quercy. He publishes his articles in reviews like " annals of Midi" , " the Review of the historiques" questions; , " the Review of history of the Church of France" , " the Telegram of Toulouse" , " the Bulletin of the Former students of St-Sulpice" , " the Bulletin of Notre-Dame de Rocamadour" " the Religious Review of Cahors and Rocamadour" …
