Eugene Draper
Eugene Mercier (1838-1904) is the founder of the country cottage éponyme. He is presented as being the inventor of advertizing film.
Childhood

Beginnings of the House Draper
In 1858, at 20 years, it is made thing. Installed with Épernay, the Maison Draper is small and the young contractor gathers it within a Union of owners which also includes/understands the Bourlon country cottage created by his/her father-in-law, Philippe Bourlon.
The suckers Draper
In 1871, it undertakes to make dig gigantic Cave S. Count per kilometers, not per meters! advise it with the architect. The cellars make 18 kilometers on only one level and they communicate with the railway line Paris-Strasbourg what makes it possible to dispatch champagne more easily.

In 1871, Mercier launches to Épernay the construction of largest the Foudre (barrel) of the world. It will take 16 years to complete the construction of this object able to contain 160.000 hectolitres, that is to say more than 213.000 bottles of champagne and weighing more than 20 tons. In 1887, its sealing is tested with the grape harvest of the year.For the World Fair of 1889, Mercier undertakes the displacement of sound Foudre in Paris. The object is tractor drawn by 12 pairs of white oxen and, to arrive to time to Paris, Mercier must repurchase houses to shave them. Three weeks will be necessary to ensure the way, attracting crowd and the press and thus increasing the notoriety of the mark. Arrived at Paris, the barriers of the Octroi will be removed to make it possible the convoy to pass. The object will be one of major attractions of the World Fair and will finish second, behind the Eiffel Tower which will gain the contest. The Mercier champagne is from now on known in France but also with the international one. The the Lightning, as for him is exposed today in the cellars Mercier.
Inventor of advertizing film
In 1900, Paris accommodates the last World Fair of the century. Eugene Mercier located the potential of the invention of the brothers Lumière. He asks them to carry out a film on the Champagne Draper in which he appears. The first advertizing film in the world will be projected during the World Fair.
Montgolfiers
Impassioned by the Montgolfier S, Eugene Mercier has another idea to ensure the publicity of his country cottage during the World Fair. He moors a tethered balloon on the Champ de Mars which he charges with bottles of champagne. Last nine people can take seat on board for a rise of 300 meters, that is to say the height of the Eiffel Tower, rise during which Mercier their fact of tasting his champagne. Naturally, the aerofoil is scratched in the name of the Champagne Draper, to be seen ground. During the World Fair of 1900 the apparatus will have received the visit of 20.000 people.
Death
Four years later, Eugene Mercier dies out. He is buried with the cemetery of Épernay with his mother.
