Eugene Bretel is a famous producer of Beurre French, born in 1842 with Portbail (Handle), deceased in 1933.

The business is taken again in 1933 by their Raoul nephew the Soft one (1875-1970). It counts 17 factories then. A fusion takes place in 1960 with the dairy Union of Bricquebec, which itself is taken again in 1972 by the company Gloria.

At the end of the XIXe century, made fortune, Eugene Bretel acquire of the castle of Chiffrevast (17th century), close to Valognes (Handle), which it furnishs and decorates with taste.
