Eugene Beaudouin

French architect and town planner, Eugene Élie Beaudouin was born on July 20th 1898 with Paris and died in Paris on January 14th 1983. Precursor of the modern architecture in the between-two-war, it is in the beginning many great architectural programs during the Thirty glorious ones.

Biography

Wire of Leon, architect, and of Marie Durand. He married in Joséphine Cahuzac, artist-painter. After studies with the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the Art schools in the workshop of Emmanuel Pontremoli, he is prize winner of the First Large Prix of Rome in 1928. He remains with the Villa Médicis of 1929 with 1932: for this period, it is not satisfied to remain in Italy and takes readings of the monasteries of the Mont Athos and town of Ispahan.

It takes the succession of his father and joins Marcel Lods in 1930. They are interested in the housing problems collective, of industrialization of the building and prefabrication, in collaboration with the engineers Vladimir Bodiansky and Jean Prouvé. Within this association, until in 1940, it carries out a series of buildings considered as precursors of the modern architecture in France: the city of the Dumb woman with Drancy, within the framework of the building sites of garden cities of the OPHLM of the the Seine, the school of Sport to Suresnes (always at the request of Henri Saddler) and the House of the people with Clichy.

It carries out in parallel a career of town planner: he works on the town-planning of Havana (1928), on the plan Prost for the installation of the Paris region (1934). He continues this activity after war within the framework of the plans of rebuildings of Marseilles (as of 1941 and until in 1943), Monaco, Saigon, Toulon, Montpellier, Clermont-Ferrand.

After the Second world war, architect as a chief of the national Palates and public buildings, recognized internationally, it has to carry out many public architectural projects: embassies, social housing, colleges, administrative buildings. It gains in 1951 the contest of the Rotterdam city to Strasbourg, launched by the government in order to develop the methods of industrialization of the building. He is in addition town planner of the Urban development zone (ZUP) of Minguettes and the district Maine Montparnasse in Paris.

Beaudouin becomes principal of architecture to the Université of Geneva, then professor with the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the Art schools and foreman of 1946 with 1968, where it has in particular as pupils Fernand Pouillon, François Spoerry, Christian de Portzamparc, Antoine Grumbach, etc Membre of the Académie of the Art schools in 1961, he is president of the French company of the town planners of 1958 with 1966 and elected president of the International union of the architects of 1960 with 1964.

A small portion of its funds of files are preserved by the French Institute of architecture.
