Eudes IV of Burgundy

Eudes IV of Burgundy , (° v. 1295 - † April 3rd 1350, Direction), duke of Burgundy of 1315 with 1350, count de Bourgogne and count d' Artois of 1330 with 1347, wire of Robert II, duke of Burgundy (1272-1306), and of Agnes of France. It was thus, by his mother, grandson of Saint-Louis.

By his older sister Marguerite of Burgundy (1290-1315), he was the brother-in-law of the king de France Louis X '' Hutin '' and the uncle of the queen of Navarre Jeanne II. By his younger sister Jeanne, he was the brother-in-law of Philippe VI, first king resulting from the branch capétienne of Valois.

He succeeded in 1315 his older brother Hugues V of Burgundy. With died of Louis X (1316), it supported the rights of his Jeanne niece against Philippe Length, brother of Louis X, but ends up marrying the oldest daughter of Philippe while yielding on the throne of France. Jeanne will become however queen of Navarre thereafter.

He thus married in 1318 Jeanne de France (1308 † 1347), countess of Burgundy and Artois, girl of Philippe V '' Length '', king de France, and of Jeanne of Burgundy, countess of Burgundy and Artois. Of this marriage, they will have:

  • a son still-born child in 1322
  • Philippe '' Mister '', (1323 † 1346) count de Boulogne and of Auvergne.
  • Jean (1325 † 1327)
  • a son, born in 1327, dead young person
  • a son, born in 1330, dead young person
  • a son, born in 1335, dead young person

He sold his rights on the Royaume of Thessalonique to Philippe I {{er}} of Tarente to died of his brother Louis, in 1316. He was used honestly Philippe VI as Valois, combatit the Flemings and was wounded with the Bataille of Cassel (1328), defended Saint-Omer in 1340 against Robert III of Artois, then helped Charles of Blois in the conflict which opposed it to Jean de Montfort. In 1346, it fought the English in Guyenne.
