Etueffont
Etueffont (in German Staufen ) is a large village which counts 1750 inhabitants (called roughly " taffions" , " taffionnes" , according to the patois) in 2007. It is located at 472 m of altitude on average and culminates with 915 meters at the top of Fayé; it is located in the canton of Rougemont-the-Castle, department of the Territoire of Belfort. Formerly existed two communes: Etueffont-Bas and Etueffont-Haut which amalgamated the June 12th 1973. Its surface is of 1253 hectares.
The village is located at the foot of the southern slope of the solid mass of the Vosges, on the river the Madeleine who crosses then Anjoutey.
Until 1775, date on which was instituted the parish of Anjoutey, the parish of Etueffont included/understood the villages of Borough-under-Châtelet, Lamadeleine, Petitmagny, Anjoutey, Etueffont-Haut and Etueffont-Bas. The church, dedicated to Saint-Valbert would date from the beginning of the 18th century.

- During the Antiquity, camps strengthened Gallo-Roman is installed at the top of Fayé.
- 1188 first mention of the name of Etueffont in a bubble of the pope Clement III.
- 1296 : Thiébaud, the count de Ferrette yields the right of patronage of the church to the Abbaye of Lucelle.
- 1354 Etueffont is regarded as chief town of a town hall made up of Borough-under-Châtelet, Lamadeleine-Valley-of-Angels, Petitmagny, Anjoutey, Etueffont-Haut and Etueffont-Bas. This town hall is then attached to the Seigneurie of Rosemont.

2006 : At the beginning of March 06, of very strong snowfalls occur on the village and the area. It snows at the beginning of the weekend (Saturday), the morning of Saturday one observes 20 cm, at the evening = 30 cm and the following day, it still snows all the day, one concerns in the center the village up to 70 cm. Circulation is parallisée, the buses of the schoolboys and schoolboys are suspended and the pupils of the village do not have course. Then snow melted quickly, with radoucissement.
As of the end of the Middle Ages, the village turns to the emergent industry: a forging mill which transforms the iron produced by the furnace of Bethonvilliers, the siver-bearing lead mining in the very close solid mass of the Vosges (the top named Tête of the Minor is there to point out it), forestry development and the manufacture of the charcoal. Thereafter a mill is installed on the river, of the ponds are dug. At the beginning of the 19th century weaving with arm develops followed about the middle of the century by mechanical weaving (Boigeol-Japy) and by a spinning mill about 1890.
At present, Etueffont is a large rather residential village of approximately 1750 inhabitants but which knew to preserve some tradesmen and craftsmen as well as a reduced agricultural activity. It is located on the road of the flowered villages of the under-Vosgean country, a way which follows the layout of an old Roman way. Etueffont accommodates the seat of the community of communes of the under-Vosgean Country (14 communes), and of the parish of the valley of the Madeleine.
The forging mill-museum of Etueffont is a very interesting witness of the activity of 5 generations of blacksmiths with. Many tools and forged objects are exposed in this traditional house built in the years 1840, where is held charming gone of Christmas at the beginning of December.
This village also counts a municipal council children, which is held every been occupied saturday of the elementary school. This council is directed by a group of piloting of adult (advised and mayor). This council counts about fifteen children. It treats life of the village, studies and works on various commissions into 2007/2008 (commission ENVIRONMENT/commission INHERITANCE and commission BURKINA FASO). The children distibuent also the parcels of Christmas to the people of more than 65 years residing in the village.
