Etterbeek

Etterbeek is one of the 19 common bilingual of Belgium located in the Région of Brussels-Capital.

It is close to the communes of Brussels-city, Ixelles, Auderghem, Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and Schaerbeek.

History

The name of Etterbeek (Ietrebecca) appears for the first time in 1127. It would draw its origin from the root Celtique " Ett" (rapid) and of the Dutch " Beek" , which means " ruisseau". Eleven years later, in 1138, current orthography " Etterbeek" appears for the first time.
