Ettal
Ettal is a commune of High Bavaria to 10 km in the north of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and to approximately 8 km in the south-east of Oberammergau in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It counts approximately 850 inhabitants today and is composed of Ettal and Graswang, (or the castle of Linderhof is located), Dickelschwaig and Rahm. The municipality belongs to the administrative community of Unterammergau. The Monastère of Ettal is located on the territory of the commune.
In 1922, the Russian type-setter Prokofiev withdrew himself for eighteen months with Ettal to finish there the composition of his opera " the Angel of feu".
