Etruscan Pachyure

The Etruscan pachyure ( Suncus etruscus ), or Etruscan shrew , is a Musaraigne. It is probably about the smallest existing mammal: it weighs only 2 grams! (The bat " Kitti with nose of pig " is about of the same weight).

Biology

It is a fine animal with the muzzle lengthened with the completely white teeth with gray peeling drawing on the brown one on the back. He attends the grassy or rocky sunny mediums.

Its activity is mainly night and it is active all the year. Its food is containing insects.

Distribution

Species of the hot zones: Mediterranean basin, Africa, Asia. In France meets on the Mediterranean circumference, the valley of the Rhone and south-west until the Charente-Maritime.
