Etienne of the Damas-Crux

Etienne Charles duke of the Damas-Crux , general Lieutenant French, knight of Malta, the Order of the Holy Spirit, Grand Cross of the Order of Saint-Louis, officer about the Legion of honor. Born in 1754 with the castle from the Crux, it was accepted with the cradle knight of Malta.

It entered to the service in 1770; in 1779, it passed to the the Indies with the rank of colonel, and served to with it as a brilliant manner. A regiment of Cipayes that one had given him to order having one day loosely taken the escape, the young colonel will be opiniâtra to remain almost alone on the battle field, where, overpowered by the number, it was made prisoner.
The peace, concluded little from time after, between the France and the England, returned it to freedom and it returned to France.

Mr. de Damas emigrated during the French revolution. Most of the soldiers who had belonged to his regiment did not want to leave it. It returned in its fatherland only in 1814.

Under the Restoration, it was set up even France In 1830 it refused the oath and withdrew public life, remainder faithful until the last moment to its beliefs and its political affections.

Died the May 28th 1846.
